Heart rate settings
Resting, max and threshold heart rate: where they come from and how to change them.
WattAscent asks for your resting and max heart rate only.
- Max heart rate defaults to the highest heart rate on your rides in the last six months (Strava and WattAscent) until you enter your own.
- Threshold heart rate is estimated from your heart rate reserve: resting + 87% of (max minus resting). That's about 90% of max for most riders. Rules of thumb vary and people differ by 5 to 10 beats per minute, so a measurement replaces the estimate when there is one.
- Measured threshold heart rate comes from the 20-minute test (your average heart rate over the effort, leaving out the first minute) or the 8-minute test (the higher of the two efforts' average, times 90%). The result screen offers it like a new FTP.
To type your own (for example, from a lab test), open your profile and choose Edit profile.
