Your first ride

Connecting devices before you start, riding in ERG mode, pausing, and saving the ride.

  1. Pick a workout. Today suggests one. If WattAscent doesn't know your FTP yet, it's the Ramp Test.
  2. Connect your devices. Before the ride starts, WattAscent lists your trainer, power meter and heart rate monitor. Wake each one (pedal, or wet the heart rate strap) and click Connect. Browsers don't reconnect Bluetooth devices on their own, so you do this before each session.
  3. Ride. The trainer holds the target watts for you (ERG mode). The graph shows the whole workout, Coach Watson gives you a heads-up before each interval, and a 3-2-1 countdown with beeps marks the start of every effort.
  4. Stop pedaling to pause. After 3 seconds without pedaling the clock stops and the trainer lets go. When you start again, power builds back over 5 seconds.
  5. Save. At the end, tell WattAscent how hard it felt (from Easy to All out). That answer, along with how much you finished, moves your levels. If Strava is connected, the ride uploads there too.

Discarding a ride asks you to confirm first, so a finished ride is never lost by accident.
