What you need to ride
Smart trainer, power meter or heart rate monitor, and a browser that supports Bluetooth.
Equipment
- A smart trainer that connects over Bluetooth (most trainers from the last several years, including Wahoo, Tacx, Elite, Saris and JetBlack models, support the standard "FTMS" Bluetooth profile). WattAscent sets its resistance so you ride at the target watts.
- Optional: a power meter on your bike. If you connect one, WattAscent records power from it instead of the trainer, so your numbers match your outdoor rides.
- Optional: a heart rate monitor (a chest strap or armband that connects over Bluetooth). It's needed for the readiness check and for heart-rate training load.
A browser that can use Bluetooth
WattAscent runs in the browser at app.wattascent.com. Bluetooth from a web page works in:
- Chrome or Edge on a Windows or Mac computer
- Chrome on an Android phone or tablet
iPhone and iPad browsers can't connect to Bluetooth devices, so you can't ride from them yet. See Riding on an iPhone or iPad.
ANT+ isn't available in the browser. If your trainer offers both, use Bluetooth.
