How levels work

Zone levels from 1 to 10, what Easy to Breakthrough mean, and what moves them.

Each training zone has a level from 1 to 10 that shows how much of that kind of work you can handle right now. Every workout is rated against your level:

  • Easy: well below your level.
  • Achievable: a solid session you should finish.
  • Productive: right where improvement happens.
  • Stretch: a step above; expect it to be hard.
  • Breakthrough: well above your level.

Recovery rides are always labelled Recovery.

What moves your levels

After each ride, your levels change based on how much of the workout you finished and how hard it felt (your answer on the result screen, from Easy to All out). Finishing a Productive workout that felt hard moves you up; struggling through a Stretch moves you less; stopping early can ease a level back.

Time off also eases levels, faster for VO2 max and anaerobic work than for endurance. See Taking time off.
