Training load, fitness and form

How WattAscent measures training load from power and heart rate.

  • Rides with power use TSS (Training Stress Score), which combines how long and how hard you rode relative to your FTP. One hour at FTP is 100.
  • Activities with a heart rate monitor (any sport) use heart-rate load, scaled so an hour at threshold heart rate is 100, then matched to your power-based TSS over your last 10 rides with both.
  • Activities without power or heart rate don't count.

From your daily load, WattAscent tracks fitness (the 42-day average), fatigue (the 7-day average) and form (fitness minus fatigue). You'll see a caution if a week's load is more than 1.5 times your four-week average.
