Taking time off

How a break from riding affects your levels, suggestions and FTP.

WattAscent measures time off from your last ride anywhere, including Strava activities.

  • 0 to 4 days: no change.
  • 5 to 7 days: levels ease by half a step.
  • 8 to 14 days: one step.
  • 15 to 28 days: two steps.
  • 29 days or more: three steps.

VO2 max and anaerobic levels fade fastest, endurance slower, and recovery not at all.

After more than 10 days off, the first suggestion is an endurance ride to ease back in. After more than 14 days, plans ease one intensity step and the next FTP check may lower your FTP.
