Using a power meter with your trainer

Which device WattAscent records power from, and how Power match keeps your numbers consistent.

If you connect both a smart trainer and a power meter, WattAscent records power and cadence from the power meter, so your training numbers match your outdoor rides. The trainer still controls the resistance.

Data sources

On the Devices tab you can choose where power and cadence come from: Auto (power meter first, falling back to the trainer if the power meter drops out or doesn't report cadence), Power meter or Trainer.

Power match

A trainer and a power meter rarely read exactly the same; a few percent apart is normal. Turn on Match trainer to power meter and WattAscent compares the two while you ride and adjusts the trainer's target so your power meter shows the target watts. Pedal steadily for about 10 seconds and the Devices tab shows how far apart they read.

Heart rate always comes from a heart rate monitor.
